Our service
Over time, dead skin cells can clog the skin, leaving it looking dull, tired and grey. Chemical peels effectively exfoliate dead skin cells away to reveal brighter, fresher-looking skin beneath. By removing the damaged outer layers of skin, the peel's active ingredients can penetrate far deeper to target conditions including acne, sun damage, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and scarring.
What to expect
Before treatment the face will be cleansed and a chemical solution or mask is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. Mild stinging may be experienced during the treatment. Skin will be red, tight, irritated or swollen afterwards. Instructions will be given for sun protection, cleansing and moisturising. Avoid picking, rubbing or scratching the skin.
For lighter peels, skin may flake mildly. For stronger peels, skin will become tight and eventually peel. With light or medium peels, more than one treatment may be needed for desired results.

What is the scale of pain?
Even a superficial chemical peel may produce a tingling sensation on the skin. This mild discomfort typically subsides once the peel solution has been neutralised. Deeper peels can feel quite active and may require numbing cream beforehand. In general, skin accustomed to the use of acids will tolerate stronger formulations.
Will I need to allow for social downtime?
This depends on the peel. At E&S Aesthetics, we will consider your post-procedure schedule when determining the most appropriate peel for your skin type and concerns. A superficial peel can produce some redness, similar to a mild sunburn, which may last 3 to 5 days. More intense medium and deep peels can result in noticeable redness, swelling, blistering (in the case of deep peels), and/or peeling for 7 to 14 days. Deep chemical peels may also require bandages for a few days afterwards, along with prescribed painkillers to manage discomfort.
Do I need to be careful in the sun afterwards?
Immediately after a chemical peel, skin becomes more photosensitive. A broad spectrum sunscreen must be applied daily after treatment, and sun exposure should be avoided or kept to a minimum.
When will I see results?
Results are usually seen in 1 to 2 weeks. Repeated treatments continue to improve the skin. We will determine the most appropriate peel formulation for your skin type at consultation.
